When a fire broke out at a barn in Alvarado, Texas earlier this month, a pony named Bella backed her 2-week-old foal, Butterscotch, into a corner and protected her from flames and falling debris. Butterscotch escaped the blaze with only minor burns, but her mother had burns on more than half her body and was not expected to make it. Today the two are in the care of the Humane Society of North Texas and should be healthy enough to be put up for adoption in about four months.
