Runners really ought to know by now that celebrating before you cross the finish line isn’t the best of ideas.
One athlete who still, somehow, wasn’t aware of this is American Ben Payne.
Payne dominated the Peachtree 10km race in Atlanta on USA’s Independence Day but, only metres before the line, got a little cocky and started to celebrate.
The schoolboy error allowed British Olympian Scott Overall to lunge and take the win by just 9/100ths of a second.
Poetic justice.
